One region, twelve municipalities

The Niagara Region is made up of 12 local municipalities: Fort Erie, Grimsby, Lincoln, Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Pelham, Port Colborne, St. Catharines, Thorold, Wainfleet, Welland and West Lincoln. Building permits and most site requirements are handled by the local municipality, so the details can vary from one to the next.

Surveying Niagara projects: the services we provide

Topographic surveys of existing sites

Paved lots look flat but rarely are. Cracks, low spots and ponding show how water actually moves. A topographic survey measures the grades and features that are really there, so designers can plan resurfacing, drainage improvements or new construction from real numbers. → Topographical surveying

Construction layout

We set out building corners, footings, offsets and elevations from your approved drawings, and recheck them as the work progresses. → Construction surveying

Grading measurements and as-builts

We measure existing and finished grades and record completed construction for comparison with the design. We provide the measurements and survey data. Grading and drainage design by an engineer or designer isn’t included in our surveying service. → Grading surveying · As-built surveying

Monitoring, SLAM LiDAR and drone

Monitoring surveys track movement of structures and excavations for the project engineer. SLAM LiDAR captures dense 3D existing conditions of buildings and complex sites. Drone surveying maps larger open areas where airspace rules allow. → Monitoring surveying · LiDAR surveying · Drone surveying

From our field files: a paved-lot topographic survey in St. Catharines

Geo Vision Surveying Inc completed topographic survey fieldwork on a paved lot in St. Catharines, with a robotic total station set up on the pavement to measure grades and site features. Surveys like this support planning for resurfacing, drainage or new construction.

Municipal requirements in Niagara

Each Niagara municipality sets its own building permit drawing requirements. Before surveying Niagara properties for a permit, always confirm the current requirements with your municipality. A survey doesn’t guarantee any permit or approval.
